India Road Trip

indiaroadtrip32This is an Eco-tourism travel project that lets you visit 4 distinct states in India in a month. Letting you experience everything from its amazing culture to its sublime cuisine by traveling through a cross section of this vast sub-continent. Keeping with the values of the Green Lion this program is environmentally friendly.

The Road trip takes you all the way from the foothills of the Himalayas to the sandy beaches of Goa. You will see the magnificent Taj Mahal, visit the famous hot springs of Shimla, spend a night in a desert in Rajasthan, travel to the home of the Dalai Lama, trek through forests, ride camels, explore palaces,forts and temples and visit world heritage sites. The program also focuses on a variety of volunteer projects. You will have the opportunity to work alongside local people in either schools, orphanages or other environmental initiatives.

First Leg:

Delhi – Himachal Pradesh – Agra (8 Days)

indiaroadtrip33You will begin your road trip in the capital city of New Delhi, where you will have a brief introduction and the chance to acclimatize to life in India and even watch a bollywood film. From here, you will travel up to Shimla for the more adventurous part of your road trip involving a two-day trek which culminates at a height of 3100 meters. This part of your trip will also take you to Thattapani Hot Springs, Shimla city and Dharamsala – The home of the Dalai Lama, where you will be able to witness a bit of Tibetan culture within India and also visit a famous temple and fort.

On returning to Delhi, you will spend an entire day taking in the sights and sounds of this magnificent city. Delhi forms a microcosm within India, being the capital city, it draws to it people from all over the country who bring with them the unique and distinct flavours of their own cultures. And as it is the nation’s capital it contains many historically and culturally important sites.

Highlight of the trip

indiaroadtrip34The next part of the trip takes you to the Jewel in the crown of India. A testimony to love forever enshrined within a marble mausoleum and recently included as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World – The Taj Mahal guarantees to leave an indelible impression.

Second Leg:

Rajasthan – Udaipur and Mt. Abu (8 Days)

The next leg of your trip takes you to the princely state of Rajasthan. You will spend most of your time here in Udaipur ‘the city of lakes’ and also visit Mt. Abu which is known for its sublime sunsets. You will see India’s second largest palace, enjoy a boat ride on the Pichola lake and will be given a Rajasthani cooking lesson. You will also spend time volunteering at a Green Lion project.This part of the trip gives you the experience of a lifetime where you will ride a camel into the desert and spend the night there.

Third Leg:

indiaroadtrip35Goa (10 Days)The final part of your trip takes you down to the sandy beaches of Goa. A warm climate, pristine beaches, exquisite cuisine and friendly people help to consistently rank Goa as one of the top tourist destinations of India. This former capital of Portuguese India is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its large number of Churches and Cathedrals. Apart from experiencing all of the above, you will also visit a spice plantation, a fort and a few local markets.Goa has several Green Lion projects ranging from schools and orphanages to women’s shelters, elders care and environmental projects. You will spend some time here volunteering at one or more projects.
